Children & Young People's Therapy

Therapy that meets children where they feel safest

At Messy Minds, we understand that traditional therapy settings don’t work for every child or young person. That’s why Tina offers therapy through an outreach approach, providing support in environments where children feel most comfortable — often in their own home.

By meeting children in familiar surroundings, therapy can feel less intimidating, more natural, and better suited to their individual needs.

A Child-Centred, Flexible Approach

Sessions are shaped around each child or young person, taking into account their emotional wellbeing, sensory needs, communication style, and personal experiences.

The outreach approach allows therapy to feel more relaxed and accessible, particularly for children who may feel anxious, overwhelmed, or resistant to clinical or unfamiliar settings.

Who This Approach May Suit

Outreach therapy may be especially helpful for children and young people who:

  • Experience anxiety or emotional overwhelm
  • Find new environments challenging
  • Are struggling with school-related stress or EBSA
  • Have additional needs or neurodivergent profiles
  • Benefit from familiar routines and spaces
  • Need a more flexible, relationship-based approach

What Sessions Focus On

Therapy sessions may support children and young people with:

  • Emotional regulation and understanding feelings
  • Anxiety, stress, and overwhelm
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • School-related challenges
  • Changes within the family or life transitions

Sessions are always guided by the child’s pace, needs, and comfort.

Yes. Outreach therapy is carefully planned and delivered in line with safeguarding and professional standards. Clear boundaries, parental consent, and agreed arrangements are always in place to ensure safety for everyone involved.

Parental involvement is discussed and agreed in advance. Some sessions may involve parents at the beginning or end, while others focus on one-to-one work with the child. Communication and boundaries are always clear.

Therapy is offered for children and young people. Specific suitability is discussed during initial contact to ensure the approach is right for your child.

No. Children do not need a diagnosis or referral to access therapy. Support is tailored to the child’s needs, not labels.

This is very common. Outreach therapy allows sessions to move at the child’s pace, focusing on building trust and safety before any deeper work begins.

If you’re unsure, we’re happy to talk things through. Parent consultations can also help explore whether outreach therapy is the most suitable option.
